Have you seen the back of the new nickels lately? I had never looked all that closely at them before, but recently decided to take a gander at one of them. There is a buffalo (tatonka) on the back of it that is CLEARLY a MALE buffalo. Go ahead.. find one and look at it and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Take your time… I’ll wait.
Now… Why did the (obviously, penis carrying) coin designer feel it was necessary to make the buffalo on the back of a nickel a GUY buffalo? Are people from other countries going to see it and get the impression that the USA is a virile and fertile country? Was that what we were going for? Is the female buffalo less intimidating of a creature? And fine… if they wanted to include the horns on the back of the coin, did they really NEED to add the penis too? If they had left that out would someone have complained? “Uh, excuse me. I’m looking at this horned-buffalo on the back of this here nickel and there’s no male accoutrement. I want my money back!” (Okay, I’m guessing the person wouldn’t say “accoutrement” – I just didn’t want to say the P word over and over again)
I’m not an uber-feminist or anything… but that’s just plain ridiculous.
