Why aren’t you watching?

These are some of the best shows on TV. I’m serious. You MUST watch them.

  • True Blood on HBO : This show is awesome. And I’m not just saying it because I’ve read all NINE of the books that this show is based on and I happen to be obsessed with vampire books lately. Oh, all right, it might have a little something to do with the books that Charlaine Harris wrote, but only because they’re so freakin good. Think Twilight, but for grown-ups… like alcohol drinking, relationship consumating, R-rated grown ups.
  • So You Think You Can Dance : This show is just plain fun. The dancing is so inspiring and even though the judges can sometimes be a little grating on the nerves (think: screams) they’re grating in an endearing and supportive kind of way. And I love hosts who genuinely seem to care about the contestants – and Cat Deely is definitely one of those hosts. Not to mention, she has great hair and super-long legs. I love this show and it’s something the whole family can watch. Lucky you there’s a new season starting in a few short weeks.
  • Mad Men on AMC : This show is so darn cool… in a Frank-Sinatra-Rat-Back-Behind-the-Scenes kind of way. The shows are beautiful and retro and dramatic and quiet and completely addicting. The acting is amazing and the fashion is fantastic. Plus it makes me appreciate NOT living in the 1960’s when women wore skirts at completely inappropriate moments (cooking? doing dishes?) and were looked at as servants, baby makers and cocktail servers. <<shiver>>

Now really… what else could you possibly be spending your time doing? Reading to your children? Feeding the homeless? Coloring the gray out of your hair? (that reminds me of something *I* should be doing…)

Pshaw.

Get thee to the TV.

Why aren’t you watching?

You MUST watch this show. It’s smart, dramatic, really good-looking, sexy, cool… and did I mention it’s good-looking?

See what I mean about good-looking?

There’s no denying that the people are sexy & good-looking (Jon Hamm makes me swoon)… but so are the clothes, the sets, the colors… it’s a feast for the eyes!

The story is dramatic and oh-so-good. Last night I watched the Season Finale and it was excellent. And guess what? The episodes are On Demand so you can watch them anytime and get caught up! Come on people – I need someone to talk with me about this show! Don’t let me down!

Since that show has ended for now… I’m currently getting sucked in (no pun intended) to this show:

I’ve seen two episodes of this one so far (thanks to my sisters & yes Jamie they are also On Demand) and wowza… I forgot just how different series on HBO are these days. This show is dark, scary, and definitely sexy. Who knew that vampires could be so HOT?!

Anyway… that’s what I’ve been up to. (because I have nothing better to do, you know)

I love TV.

Fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants-kind-of-gal

I’m not usually someone who plans a lot of stuff for the weekends. My work weeks are so chock full o’ meetings and interviews and training classes and more meetings that I like to have weekends with NOTHING planned. (except for maybe some naps) Not so for this weekend.

Saturday afternoon we hosted Marti & Lew along with their kids and my sister Jillian for a night of games, food and margaritas! Can I just say that it was the first time I had ever heard my  baby sister referred to as a “whore” – thanks for that, Marti! Ha! (we’re a teensy bit competitive when we play games)

Today I had to work on scrapping for my Design Team gig at Serendipity Kits & knock out a few layouts to be posted for tomorrow. (you can check them out at the site!) Then tonight we had a delicious dinner with my sisters & family.

See what I mean by busy? I didn’t get to take any naps! And that’s a damn crime!

To make up for my napless weekend - these were waiting for me at the house after dinner:

Secret Admirerer? Nah… they were from the Corporate Trainer – thanking me for being a “trooper” while the training classes have been constantly changed and updated… (this week I’m training two more hotels – yowza!)

The flowers were a very nice way to end the weekend.

Speaking of a nice way to end the weekend… Mad Men has been recorded. I don’t mind having Don Draper as the last thing I see before I fall asleep.

Why I LOVE Jon Stewart

This isn’t so much about the candidates… instead, it’s about the hypocritical and ridiculous commentators & advisors with their swollen egos & over-stuffed wallets. And, it’s so right on.

“I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.”

What movie? Anyone?

(Marti knows it!)

My day yesterday was crazy. Seriously.

I’m dealing with mega-issues at work that are taking a lot of time and space in my brain.  I was insulted by a colleage at a Staff Meeting in front of about 20 other managers. And then my sister forgot to tell me that she was going to be arriving at my house that evening with her family to stay for the weekend.

Did I also mention that I thought it would be a really good time to go cold turkey on medicine that I’ve been taking for the past four years? NOT pretty.

It was also a full moon.

I had a dishwasher in my office with a complaint about his supervisor towards the end of the day. I was exasperated at this point (due to all issues listed above) and looked at the guy and said, “What is wrong with this place? Why are these people behaving this way?”

He said, “I just don’t know Jen.”

Because I’m now taking advice from one of my dishwashers.

He’s quite the philosopher.

My assistant was begging me to go back on the medicine. She even offered to call my doctor for me. Isn’t she the sweetest? I told her that I was perfectly fine to handle the day’s issues… and that it didn’t matter one bit that my lips were numb, my teeth hurt and my eyeballs felt like they were drying out inside my head. It didn’t matter. I was fine.

This is clearly the talk of a crazy-person. Only crazy people think they are fine when their lips are numb. It’s a fact.

I got on with the day… shrinking eyeballs and all. I saw my favorite colleague later on and asked if he wouldn’t mind removing the dagger from my back. He was all like, what? what are you talking about? Yeah. I also declined his offer to carpool with him to work every day. (The increased price in gas is worth my sanity [which is also questionable at this point], thankyouverymuch) Then I consumed two glasses of really good wine.

After that I went home and watched So You Think You Can Dance. (the best show on TV right now)

This morning I called my doctor & had my prescription refilled.

Big Brother contestant actually a Muppet.

Is it me or are these two freakishly similar?

I think it was Janice on Big Brother this entire time. I’m just waiting for a hand to come out of her ass. Imagine that twist. “Expect the Unexpected“, right?

My love has returned.

I love him. And I love this show. He didn’t make anyone outright cry in the first episode – but tonight there were tears!

It cracks me up when contestants seem so surprised by what he says or what he does. Have they not seen this show before?

When did I start speaking Natalie?

All of a sudden on last night’s Big Brother, Natalie started making sense to me.

This worries me as she’s not considered the most, um, bright person in the house. Am I losing my mind? Or did Matty hand her back her brain when he walked out of the house?

She’s also wearing less make-up now that Matt is gone. Anyone else notice that? Or do all of you actually have a life outside of reality TV?

And speaking of Reality TV – American Idol was GOOD last night! Well – a few of them were. I loved David Cook, Michael the Australian guy, and Brooke. David was awesome.

Damn. I need more hobbies.

Does it count that I was working on a Sudoku  puzzle while Idol was on?

You can’t go wrong…

when this is on TV:

See, this is what happens when you can’t sleep the night before a memorial service… so you end up falling asleep mid-afternoon while there are still people over at the house. Now you’re wide awake watching Ice Castles and surfing the ‘net.

Robbie Benson had a lot of hair.

Ut-oh, here come the roses…

So you think you’re so smart, Lost?

I cracked the code. I’ve figured it out. I know the answer to Lost.

Brigadoon

That’s right, a musical, directed by Vincente Minnelli (Judy’s ex & Liza’s Dad) in 1954. Gene Kelly danced and swooned over Cyd Charisse… in the foothills (studio set) of Scotland where they say things like ‘lass’ and ‘kilt’…. ahhhh…

Anyway.

That’s the answer to Lost. So there.

Okay. Maybe it doesn’t answer everything… but it’s sure making me feel less crazy about trying to find answers to that freakin’ story. Was anyone else distracted by Fisher Stevens’ on the show last night? No? That was just me? Allrightty.
