So you think you’re so smart, Lost?

I cracked the code. I’ve figured it out. I know the answer to Lost.

Brigadoon

That’s right, a musical, directed by Vincente Minnelli (Judy’s ex & Liza’s Dad) in 1954. Gene Kelly danced and swooned over Cyd Charisse… in the foothills (studio set) of Scotland where they say things like ‘lass’ and ‘kilt’…. ahhhh…

Anyway.

That’s the answer to Lost. So there.

Okay. Maybe it doesn’t answer everything… but it’s sure making me feel less crazy about trying to find answers to that freakin’ story. Was anyone else distracted by Fisher Stevens’ on the show last night? No? That was just me? Allrightty.

Team Matt

My dear friend Jo asked me to start a blog (and teach her how to use it) so she can chronicle the journey of recovery they’re on for her son Matt. (I mentioned him a couple of posts down)

And since I’d do anything for her, I created it here: www.teammatt.wordpress.com

I also added it to my blog list over there —–>

Stop by and read her touching (and funny) entries. You’ll be glad you did. Matt will also be checking into the blog & would love to read some comments… if you feel so inclined.

I thought that a beautiful and hopeful picture would be appropriate on Jo’s blog about Matt. I found a really sweet painting by an artist from Wisconsin (where Jo lives) showing some sunflowers and a barn in the distance. Matt was absolutely horrified at such a girlie picture on top of a blog about HIM, so he sent the photo of himself to be added instead.

Really… I only did it for the orange “Team Matt” t-shirt.

“I want to squeeze you, bite your head off, and hang you from my rear view mirror.”

…said Paula Abdul last night on American Idol.

For once, I totally agree with her. The Tiger Beat toting pre-teen inside of me melted while contestant David Archuleta sang a beautiful version of “Imagine.” Okay, fine… the 30+ (ahem) year old HR Director-and-PTA-Mom-of-two melted also.

I’m anticipating a lot of hand cramps.

We close on the house tomorrow. I don’t think it’s sunk in, even though I’m sitting here surrounded by boxes and mess and empty walls. Weird.

This weekend was filled with packing and puking. Well, mostly packing. The only puking was from the little girl who got sick at her friend’s birthday party. How much does that suck? Don’t we all have a memory of some childhood birthday party where some kid threw up and we remember thinking, “Thank goodness that wasn’t me!?”  Poor thing. She’s been sick all weekend – so I’ve been alternating between packing and napping and being a nurse. (hey – I deserved a nap after all of that)

My friend’s son is still in the hospital – out of intensive care. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts.

That’s all for now… need to rest up these fingers for tomorrow’s signature extravaganza!

Please pray.

I just found out that the son of one of my best friends is in the hospital. He was in a skiing accident and his injuries are from the neck up. He’s currently in Intensive Care.

Any thoughts and prayers would be so appreciated.

OD’ing on TV

The only thing better than a Key West chicken trying to get a cool drink and some air conditioning… is all the awesome TV on right now.

Last night: American Idol, Big Brother and Project Runway

Tonight: Survivor, Lost

*swoon*

Is all that super-excellent TV more fun than sticking plastic cups to your faces while on an airplane?

Okay, maybe not.

Ups and Downs and Ups and Downs

Back from the cruise. That’s me – para-sailing. Probably the most adventurous thing I’ve done since getting that perm in high school.

See that teeny-tiny itsy-bitsy yarn-like-string? That, and some hooks were the only things keeping me from floating off into the Caribbean Sea. And I’m not really sure that I didn’t want that to happen. It was way more peaceful and serene up there than any other day in my life.

Then the wind blew and the metal hooks started to rub together and I realized that all good things must come to an end & I was ready to not be dangling over an ocean like a worm on the end of a fishing line.

The rest of the trip was fine. I enjoyed the whole cruising experience and can see why people like to do it – endless food, entertainment, drinks with umbrellas, people serving you non-stop. Way cool.

It had it’s good moments and it’s frustrating moments… but remember, I was on vacation with 11 other members of my family. The fact that we all made it back in one piece, still speaking to each other, and without anyone crying during an argument, is in itself a huge accomplishment.

Speaking of cool… this one turns 7 years old today.

She got sick on the cruise – a slight ear infection. Visiting the infirmary on the boat (after hours) and the ship’s doctor the next day cost more than all the fab umbrella drinks we consumed the entire time. *sigh* Thankfully, we were able to get some antibiotics and make sure she got lots of rest. She didn’t miss out on any of the fun though – per the doctor. She’s also really good at sharing – she passed her ick onto me.

We’re celebrating her coming into this world by having dinner at Chick-fil-a. ‘Cause nothing says “welcome to the world” like chicken on a bun with pickles and mayo. (she got to choose whatever she wanted for dinner – so there you have it) The cousins are coming over tonight to enjoy cupcakes and open presents.

Maybe tomorrow the ground will stop swaying.

X Marks the Spot

Politics aside… I felt pretty proud of my gender tonight when I stood in front of the computerized voting booth (no dangling chads for me)  and saw a woman’s name on the list for President of the United States.

That’s amazing to me… that she’s been able to get this far. Really. There are still glass ceilings out there; I see it every single day. It is sad that it’s taken this long to see the possibility of a female president – but we’re getting closer and closer to it actually happening & that is so exciting to me.

I felt even better when touched the screen and put a big fat X next to her name. Even if she doesn’t win the nomination (my fingers are certainly crossed for her) I’m thrilled that she’s somewhere in the fight.

The kids came with us while we voted tonight. I wanted them to experience Democracy in Action. I was explaining to them how there are many countries out there who don’t have democracies… whose people can’t choose their leaders… talking about how this is the first election with a female candidate (who isn’t going to paint the White House pink, Skylar. Thankyouverymuch.) and how important that is to the country…

Turns out, they just wanted to get one of those “Georgia Votes” stickers. That, to them, is democracy – FREE stickers. I was elated to finally see a female Presidential Nominee; they were happy to get a sticker. Any day we’re all happy at the same time is a good day.

Then again – maybe I was just giddy because there was no one on the ballot with the surname of “Bush.”

I hope you marked an X on a ballot today – even if you didn’t vote for the female. (and I hope you got a free sticker too!)

How to ruin a perfectly nice Saturday.

I went shopping yesterday for a bathing suit to wear on the cruise. <<shiver>>

The experience was so traumatizing that I had to come home and lie down.

I think department stores should have a little tequila/lemon/salt stations at the entrance to the dressing rooms. It really would make the process easier.

Against my better judgement, I decided to post a picture of me wearing my new bathing suit – brace yourselves – I hope it’s not too revealing…
